Kindey Stones
Kidney stones are hard, crystal-like deposits made of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys. They develop when the urine becomes concentrated, allowing minerals to stick together and form stones. Kidney stones can vary in size — from a grain of sand to a golf ball — and can affect any part of the urinary tract.
Passing a kidney stone can be extremely painful, but with timely treatment, most cases can be managed effectively.
The important symptoms are:
- Sharp pain in the back, side, or lower abdomen
- Pain during urination
- Pink, red, or brown urine (blood in urine)
- Nausea or vomiting
- Frequent urge to urinate
- Cloudy or foul-smelling urine
- Fever or chills (if infection is present)
